5 Romantic Things To Do In Tenerife

Comment

Boasting warm weather all year round, Tenerife is the perfect place to spend a romantic holiday with your loved one, as it’s bursting with natural beauty, culture and great food. To help you plan your perfect trip, we’ve picked 5 romantic things to do when exploring this magical island.

1. Teide National Park

Home to Spain’s highest peak, this protected natural area has some incredible features that are out of this world – scientists even examine the land here when researching for experiments on Mars! A scenic walk through the national park is a great way to see Tenerife’s stunning wildlife, and there’s even a cable car that you can take up to La Rambleta, just beneath Mount Teide’s summit. For an even more romantic trip, take one of the sunset and stars tours of the national park, and after sunset spend the evening stargazing and watching distant planets sparkle overhead.

2. Parque García Sanabria

At the heart of Santa Cruz de Tenerife sits the Parque García Sanabria. This beautiful urban park is the perfect place to spend an afternoon strolling hand-in-hand, and you can spend as much time enjoying the beautiful flowers and fountains as you can, admiring the abstract sculptures and the ever-changing floral clock. Countless parrots swoop past as you meander through the botanical gardens, and gazebos and rides line the pathways. As you follow the curved pathway to the park’s centre, you’ll find yourself facing a beautiful sculpture, Fecundidad. Surrounded by misty fountains, this is seen by many as the park’s most beautiful spot.

3. Romantic Dining

Tenerife has many wonderful restaurants, serving up local cuisine in an idyllic setting – a great way to enjoy a romantic meal. Some of the most popular restaurants include the lavish Rosso Sul Mare, Restaurant Jardin at the Royal Garden Villas and Las Rocas, which is nestled on the seafront. Alternatively, take a trip to one of Tenerife’s farmers markets and pick up some delicious local produce to cook up a scrumptious local dish in the comfort of your own private villa.

4. La Orotava

Sitting on Tenerife’s north west coast is La Orotava, an old town that gives visitors an insight into Tenerife’s history. Explore buildings with elaborate inner balconies, such as Casa Méndez-Fonseca, and stroll around to see the many churches and monasteries that the town has to offer. It’s never too hard to find some good local wine tasting here, too, and during May and June the town plays host to a religious festival, when works of art line the streets and pavements. Make sure you set aside plenty of time to discover the many picturesque gardens and delicious restaurants that this town has to offer.

The town of Garachico is worth visiting in its own right, but especially when you see the rock pools that have been formed from the lava here. Ocean water has been trapped in these pools and is warmed by the sun, providing clear blue pools perfect for bathing. There are schools of tiny fish swimming beneath the surface, and you’re surrounded by great views of the ocean. Once the gateway harbour to the New World, the town has a long history as one of Spain’s main trading ports and is dotted with wonderful local restaurants, but one of the best ways to eat is by the coast, watching the waves crash against the rocks.
